Hi,
looking for a decent mij les paul and discovered these one online...
Been reading up on the various well respected copies and various threads on the forum, but before buying would like some outside opinion on the best of these greco/burnys:

Thanks!

I'm not a Greco guy, I'll leave that to otehrs... but a resounding YES to the Burny Customs!! These are my favorites with the early split diamond inlay. You will be blown away by them. 8)

Thanks for the help!
Unfortunately i just missed out on the custom revival burny (top one with no stamp in the cavity), which was lighter and with vh1 pick ups...
The other one is 5.4kg , with original pick ups (not listed which type but i have contacted seller) but the neck doesn't look quite as nice...
Do these pop up often ?

You have to nose around some for the early models like those. You tend to see more lightning bolt type from the late 80's early 90's.

Between these two at the moment...

I'm getting carried away now!

Starting to get into these guitars and i don't even own one yet !
How do they compare to the super grades of mid eighties and what guitars do you own ?

Comparable quality. I feel Burny is your best bet (and definitely value) with 80's MIJ... the quality across the board on all models is amazingly consistent. Others may disagree.
Between those two, I am very partial to classic black (being it's a '57 tribute right?!) That Custom 'burst has been around literally for months.

I dont have many compared with some of the folks here, but here are are few of my current and past. The black Custom and flame Burny are my faves. Never say never, but I will never let these 2 go.

Nothing wrong with the Greco's at all, the super reals and early mint collection guitars are excellent. I have a burny RR-70 and a greco RR-65 and i'll take the greco every time, its an awesome guitar. All the Japanese manufacturers make good guitars.

Thanks guys...

Nice collection !

Was there a drop in quality after the burny lightning bolt headstock, or is it just cosmetic/ collectability ?

Some seem to have darker fretboards too

I have also seen other makes like aria pro with the diamond inlay...

Would like one of these black customs / standards but looks like i may have to wait and keep looking for the right one to come up...

Otherwise looking at a greco rr 55 with screaming p'ups. simmilar to Micks

Thanks Mick
What do think of this ?

I'm a bit worried about the damage...
Have asked seller but no reply as yet

Thanks... very small compared to most here
From a workmanship/quality standpoint, pre or post lightning bolt I think is the same, as long as you are talking MIJ. The only thing are different pups used later, and maybe not as choice woods available later- but that is an assumption.
Yeah, I dont know if Burny stained their boards or what, but they are typically very dark rosewood, especially on the ebony models (not meaning ebony boards).

don't let the post correct head stock RLC lightning bolt inlay examples fool you; there are some that are really great

here's one right here; a very rare natural finish RLC, and it is as good as the earlier correct head stock inlay/non lightning bolt examples

I should not have sold this one :(

Are you worried about the bumps on the headstock and body.? Thats about what mine looks like up close. That guitar was made around the same time as mine. It is a fujigen made one and if it sounds anything like mine it should be a very nice guitar. I haven't tried the screamin pickups, mine has the dry 1982's, they suit the guitar very well.
Chingo is a reliable seller as well.
